Assuming it's the Opel engine: check for air leak between distributor & carburettor (vacuum advance pipe), servo vacuum hose & also air filter Air-Vac pipes (small diameter ones from servo hose valve connection to filter case & from filter case to valve in filter neck). End connections are more likely to be suspect especially on small diameter pipes. ---------------------- |

Spark from coil HT lead supported close to an earth (body or engine but well away from the carburettor) should jump about 1cm. ---------------------- |

Are you sure it is electrical or head? I had similar and it was fuel starvation due to a blocked air hole in the fuel filler cap. (Discovered by the sucking noise it made when opened) A friend of mine had a similar fault and it was a weak spring in the fuel pump which for some reason worked intermittently. Could it be a semi choked fuel filter? ---------------------- |

It might be fuel problem is there anyway to clean the filter I'm on a camp site at the moment looks like I may need to recover it home unless I can get it sorted here I've cleaned the carb but if it's fuel won't the choke help it to run as I tried it when the splutterin started as the choke gives it more fuel right? But that didn't even work dunno weather it's eletrical fault under heat or what it's the cf2 model 2.0 Thanks for help upto now ---------------------- |

Fuel checks. Remove the air intake hose from the top of the carburettor & pump the accelerator pedal while looking down the choke tube (barrel) of the carburettor. You should see a jet of petrol from a small arm protruding into the choke tube below the choke flap. If there's no jet of fuel every time the accelerator pedal hits the floor, or just spits or dribbles, then check the screen filter in the carburettor. It's a plastic tube thing inside the brass nut underneath the fuel inlet & can become choked by fine debris. Also detach the hose from the carburettor inlet then route it to where the end can be poked into a container (about 1 pint capacity should be enough for what follows) then crank the engine a few turns; there should be a good spurt of fuel (about 4-6 inch long) from the hose every 2 turns of the engine. If fuel delivery seems poor then remove the top from the fuel pump (screw in middle; may be tight) and check the screen filter that's inside. While removing the cap note which way round the filter sits (small pegs on one side) and make sure that the rubber seal & mating faces are clean when refitting the cap. Use gasket glue on the seal if it seems to have hardened. If fuel delivery doesn't improve then suspect faulty fuel pump or blocked fuel line. To check the latter, detach the hose from the tank side of the fuel pump (expect fuel to run out due to gravity) and blow through the hose to the tank with the filler cap removed until someone listening at the filler can hear bubbling. A piece of clean tube stuffed in the end of the hose makes the blowing somewhat more pleasant... ---------------------- |

Could be a dirty air filter. Happened to me. I would try removal, temporarily, just to eliminate it. |
