Sparkrite SX2000

I was recently given a Sparkrite SX2000 Mk2, still in it's original box, the owner telling me it was surplus to requirements: in other words, he's got an electronic ignition. Just wondered if anybody has ever used one, has anyone got an opinion on it?
It states it's:
Easier starting,
Smoother running,
Greatly extends contact breaker life
Sounds all too good to be real.

They do exactly that.

The only down side is tarnishing of the points.

When this happens you will have a problem starting/running.

All you need to do is clean both faces ..

Thanks Gethin for your prompt reply. Looks like I got a useful freebie, perhaps my luck is changing.

I have never been able to make up my mind on electronic ignition. On the one hand the benefits are obvious in reliability and ease of maintenance, on the other if one day the vehicle didn't start, it has always been in the back of mind about how and how long to repair/replace the electronic parts (and prove beyond doubt it was them that were the cause). So my current position is that while I can still easily get points/condensors etc for my (usually Ford 'Pinto' or 'Essex') engines I'll stick to them. When supplies dry up, I'll go electronic (and probably wish I had years before!) Not had the CF long enough though to know how easy it is to get ignition parts for it so we shall see.

Bosch system for the slant engine can be checked with a multimeter and 4W test lamp & converting to CF2 ignition supply by-passes all the ballasted supply fault points. H&H do a nice recon job on distributors & module & coil are easy to find (e.g. VW carburettor models without engine management).

I have a sparkrite on my wifes morris traveller and loved it so much I fitted one to the Bedford and once again, bloody fantastic!
I would recommend them as a cheap fix specially as you can revert back to points by flicking a switch unlike electronic ignition.
I had a pertronix before that went faulty and once broken, so are you!
unless you carry a spare set of points with you of course...
