Gearbox.

Hi Dom,

If it is any help I can lay hands on an Bedford Opel four speed gearbox, but this would mean having to change the clutch and maybe the prop-shaft at the same time because of different splines on the input shaft and the tail shaft of the gearbox.

Hi Dom,

I have done some checking up on this Opel gearbox and it has the same input shaft and splines as your ZF one so no need to change the clutch, the length of the input shaft is also the same as is the bearing in the centre of the flywheel.
The gearbox will I think be shorter than your ZF box so the prop-shaft would have to have some work done to make it match up at the tail-shaft, might be a bit of work but it would get you out of trouble.

Hi thank you mr Joyce. This sounds interesting. Do you have a number to talk about this. Also is the opel gear box better made and easier to repair and find for the future? Perhaps i could send my zf up to you nand do a partial exchange?

Gearbox.

Hi Dom,

This Opel gearbox has much heavier gears than the old Bedford CF type fitted until 1986 but most seem to have been for export, the version built for the Australian market under the Bedford name.
The guy who has this gearbox bought it to fit to an older Bedford CF but to save to much alteration he got a CF box that went right into place from me about two years ago.
That's is how I knew he had one sitting in his shed, so that is the history of it, I would need the ask him about price but I don't think it will be all that expensive so I don't think an exchange will interest him.
Phone and we can have a chat about it, my number is 07593522661, the last car rage cost that I paid was £43.00 due to the weight limit being 30 lbs. and the gearbox was 29 lbs.

Hi mr joyce. Thanks for your help a while back now. Sorry could not navigate back to our earlier chat to reply before.. The opel gearbox is possible. My number is 07846055978 and email potterdom@gmail.com if you wish to send pics. Had the old one back in since change of clutch and cable an speedo. With the new box oil and shards of metal drained it appears to be grinding less. I will see if it'll do on a longer journey. Any tips on weather to add oak chips or anything else to ease the grinding?
